Wheal Coates tin mine in Cornwall
Wheal Coates is a National Trust owned tin mine located between St Agnes and Chapel Porth on the south west coastal path.
Parking
We parked in the National Trust owned car park at Beacon Hill. Which if you are member, it is totally free! We then walked a short distance from the car park to where Wheal Coates is located. When we arrived there were people paragliding above the tin mines making for some fantastic shots. It looked like so much fun, such a peaceful and serene setting for a glide.
Paths
From the tin mine if your turn right you can walk long the coast path where you will then come into the town of St Agnes. A great place to stop for some lunch or have a swim in the sea. However, if turn left like we did, you can walk along the coast path towards Chapel Porth. At chapel Porth there is a small beach with a cafe.
The walk took maybe half an hour and throughout the whole walk you have the most spectacular views over the bay. On a very clear day you can see right around the headland, and if you are lucky even maybe even a dolphin or two!
Chapel Porth
Unfortunately in the summer month dogs are not allowed on the beach at Chapel Porth. Which was sad for Barney as he is a proper sea dog. However, he got to have a paddle in the river near the cafe. My boyfriend and I sat by the rivers edge where we had a delicious mango and lime delipop ice lolly from the cafe. (They only accept cash F.Y.I)
Summary
All in all, the walk was probably 2-3 miles there and back. However, there were numerous different paths you can take to make your walk longer or shorter. I highly recommend adding this to your lists of walks to do. It’s such a beautiful scenic route especially in spring/summer when all of the heather and gorse is out.
