The lost gardens of Heligan in Cornwall
This blog post is all about The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a beautiful Cornish tourist attraction and also my Summer work place. I have worked at Heligan for the past two Summers now and have taken many opportunities to wander around and admire its beauty.
History
Heligan Gardens was founded by Tim Smit 25 years ago when he stumbled upon a door that led to a secret garden. The garden had been lost for decades due to the war. To read more I will link Heligan’s website here. A side from all of its wonderful history Heligan is a place that can be enjoyed by all, from young to old, it caters for everyone.
Admission
Heligan is open all year round, the only day it’s closed is Christmas day! Admission prices are £16 per adult. £10 per student. £8 per 5-7 year old. Under 5’s are free. I will leave a link here to the admission page if it does change over time.
Also if you are a local they run passes twice a year, normally through the months of March and November. This means that is you visit and pay admission within these months you will get a pass for the whole year for free! I think you just need to bring proof of your address. Also the Eden Project do something very similar, so keep your eye out for that.
ACTIVITIES
When I worked over the Summer, Heligan’s events team put on ‘The Lost Summer’ which is a fun outdoors activity centre for the children. Events that take place our den building, marshmallow roasting and arts and crafts.
WHEN TO VISIT
Heligan is an attraction the people can visit all year round, as the seasons change so does the landscape. Heligan also puts on seasonal events such as the Harvest, Christmas Markets and The Lost Summer. So there is always something new to do and see every time you visit.
