Best scenic drives in Cornwall, UK

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Todays post is all about the best scenic drives in Cornwall. I wanted to create this blog post for those of us looking to do something on a rainy day, a slow Sunday or just trying to keep Corona at bay! I know this summer may be a busy and a slightly scary one so, being able to explore beautiful spots around Cornwall from the safety of your car sounds ideal to me.

1. Pentire – Bedruthan Steps

The first drive I would highly recommend is Pentire headland in Newquay all the way over to Bedruthan Steps. This drive is about half an hour long and you will get some of the best views of Fistral beach, Porth beach and Watergate bay. I would highly recommend when reaching Bedruthan you stop at the National Trust car park and hop out for a lovely headland walk.

Or if you are feeling more adventurous and have more time why not go all the way to Padstow? You can carry along the B3276, this may take you an extra 10-20 minutes. The best thing with these drives is that you can take your time and stop off where you want to!

2. Pentewan – St Mawes

For those of you who don’t mind driving down country roads Pentewan to St Mawes could be a lovely drive. If you have extra time I would

highly recommend stopping off at The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey on the way. I do have blog posts on them both which you can check out by clicking on them. This drive will give you ample of Cornish countryside, sea views and cute Cornish villages to explore. Veryan is one of my favourites and there you will find some round houses built in the 19th century. Legend says the houses were built round so that the devil couldn’t hide in any corners!

3. Marazion to Porthcurno

On your visit to Cornwall you cannot miss out on the spectacular St Michaels Mount which is located just off Marazion. I would highly recommend starting your journey there. If you have time you can explore the castle, you can either get to it when the tide is out by crossing the causeway. Or alternatively catching a passenger boat across when the tide is in.

When on your road trip I would also highly recommend stopping off at Mousehole which a quaint fishing village. Before finishing off your journey at Porthcurno where you can take in the spectacular views from the Minack Theatre.

If you’re feeling in a proper road trip mood why don’t you go the whole hog all the way to Land’s End and get a picture next to the infamous sign. You may have not driven all the way from John O’Groats but you can imagine! Check out this post where I did this exact journey.

4. St Ives to Botallack

Finally finishing off this Cornish road trip adventure post is St Ives to Botallack. St Ives is a bustling Cornish town full of artists and makers. While in St Ives I would highly recommend checking out The Tate and having a beastly burger at Hubbox.

Then follow the B3306 all the way to Zennor which again is a very small village with an interesting story to tell. Go inside the church to learn all about the legend that is the Mermaid of Zennor. You may even spot the odd bit of wildlife on the road like we did in the video above…haha.

Lastly ending your drive at Botallack where you can see Cornwall’s mining history. Tin mines litter that rugged landscape making for some perfect Poldark-esque drama shots.

Summary

I really hope that you enjoyed this blog post all about the best scenic Cornish drives. I hope you all stay well and safe if you are a local or visiting on holiday.
